Ep. 13: Common Funnel Mistakes That Are Killing Your Conversions – With Michelle Fernandez

TUNE IN: Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Stitcher

Until you start digging into the data, business can feel very unpredictable and inconsistent. Neglecting key metrics can also lead to a lack of clarity on important business decisions. Should I spend more money on ads? Do I have the revenue to hire another team member?

In this episode, Nicki and Kate are joined by growth strategist Michelle Fernandez to discuss how tracking metrics and analyzing data can ensure consistent and predictable sales growth. Listen in to find out how to take the guesswork out of what is and isn’t working in your circuit.

A Sneak Peek at the Episode

[2:53] One of the main problems Michelle sees when people are trying to build circuits and add automation to their business, is that they don’t have them all working together in harmony.

[6:19] It is always worth retargeting people at different layers of your circuit. It helps to guide them back and remind them of what’s there.

[7:57] It’s important to have a system in place for spot checking any technical issues within your circuit and ensuring buttons go to the right places.

[13:22] Testing new funnels before launching them helps to identify and fix any issues or inconsistencies.

[15:51] Michelle reminds us to also consider the user experience when it comes to testing, in order to increase conversions.

[17:40] As a business owner, it’s crucial to track metrics and analyze data to ensure consistent and predictable sales growth.

[22:05] When you have data, you don’t have drama. You’re dealing with the facts of what you’re working with, which help you figure out how to change and improve those numbers.

[23:40] Key performance indicators (KPIs) are a critical indicator of what your progress is towards your intended outcome. Industry benchmarks can be surpassed by continuously testing and tweaking your strategies.

[24:58] Just looking at the sales number is confusing and misleading. Tracking other metrics like opt-in rates and email click through rates helps you know exactly what to focus on to improve sales.

[30:22] If you’re selling a membership, Michelle recommends tracking retention rates to help you see whether your messaging and marketing efforts are effective inside the program.

[31:29] Make sure you have enough data before making any changes to your circuit. Spending a bit more on ad traffic means you’ll get the data faster to make decisions on how to move forward.

[33:08] If you’re sending traffic to the wrong audience, it might look like your circuit isn’t converting. It’s a good idea to run your circuit to organic first to prove that it does work.

[35:39] When business owners actually dig into their numbers, there’s a lot less luck involved!

Must-Hear Takeaways

As with every episode, we highly encourage you to listen to the entire conversation! But, here are a few of the highlights:

Michelle Fernandez, founder of Michelle Fernandez Media, which provides done-for-you growth solutions for coaches, consultants, and course creators

“By having these KPIs and these benchmarks, it allows you to keep your eye on the prize and you know exactly what to focus on, and what matters most in order for the domino effect to get to the sales.” – Michelle

“Anytime we put on a new funnel, we put ourselves through it before we put it live for everyone else. You find so many things that are just slightly off and can fix them before it goes live to the world.” – Kate

“Business can feel very amorphous, like it’s a matter of luck or hoping, ‘gee, I hope this performs!’ but when you actually dig into your numbers, there’s a lot less luck involved.” – Nicki

Members of the Nicki K Media team sit with laptops brainstorming in a living room

“I think a lot of maybe newer business owners or just maybe business owners who have not been used to tracking their numbers, the number that they’re tracking is the sales, right? But that’s the outcome and it’s making changes to those inputs really that affects the output. By the time you get to that output number, if you’re only looking at sales, all of this has already happened, you can’t make changes by the time you’ve got into the sales point.” – Nicki
