A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[1:00] The Circuit Sales System team are big fans of paid media but want to make sure you know what you need to do BEFORE you start running ads.
[2:28] Before you start running ads, test them on your existing audience and organically promote them on your social media channels.
[4:31] When you send your traffic through your offer, you can start to see which messaging resonates the most with your perfect target audience and refine areas that could be strengthened.
[6:27] There are a lot of different factors that go into optimizing a Facebook ads campaign (people do this as a full-time job!), which means it can be a place where it’s easy to get into trouble.
[9:00] Once you’ve tested your offer to your organic audience and seen that it does well, you might turn on ads and see that people are not purchasing. It’s easy to be reactionary here and want to change your offer, but the changes you need to make are likely in your ads targeting.
[12:38] In these scenarios, it’s crucial to look at the right metrics and be scientific and methodical in your approach. If you start changing everything in the short term, you end up taking longer to solve the problem (and end up spending more money!).
[14:53] With ads, it’s a money-time trade-off. When you pay for ads, that will increase the speed with which you can get people in front of your offer. While you can absolutely have a solid business without ads, it’s very rare a business can get to seven figures and beyond in revenue per year without ads of some sort.
[16:26] You run a very significant risk of losing a lot of money when you have no idea about running ads and blindly trust an agency to handle it. Having a baseline understanding, especially of knowing who your audience is, can help you partner with your agency and achieve stronger results.
[22:26] Running ads can sound complicated but if you don’t validate your circuit with your organic audience, it becomes incredibly hard to backpedal and figure out what’s wrong (ads almost never run perfectly when you start them).
[25:30] You don’t want to make decisions based on a handful of people. You want at least 100 people going through something before you make any sort of drastic change (even this number is quite low).
[28:05] Learning your numbers might initially seem scary or confusing, but as business owners, we need to understand our metrics in order to guide our business decisions.

Must-Hear Takeaways
As with every episode, we highly encourage you to listen to the entire conversation! But, here are a few of the highlights:
“You want it to work fast and you obviously want sales to be coming in. We can’t just be sitting around spending money and not making money. But it’s kind of looking at the long term versus the short term and if you start to change everything in the short term, just trying to figure it out, you end up taking longer in the long run and end up spending more money.” – Kate
“A really easy way to veer off the success path is to test your offer to organic, see that it does really well, turn on ads, see that people are not purchasing from your ads and go ‘oh my gosh, there’s something wrong with my offer, I need to go in and change it.’ Woah, take a step back there.” – Nicki
