Most business owners have (at least!) one task on their to-do list that they just want to avoid forever. Whether it’s writing, sales calls, or grappling with technology, the mere thought of it just fills you with dread.
But no matter how much you procrastinate, you probably know by now that it’s not just going to magically disappear. Sooner or later, we have to face it–but it doesn’t have to be as daunting as you think! A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[2:05] Cindy is a registered nurse who has switched over to functional health coaching. She feels less confident with the marketing side of things and consistently runs into problems when it comes to technology.
[3:44] Nicki reminds us that marketing is really just talking to people, but doing it in a slightly more specific way. It’s about connecting with the right people in our audience.
[4:59] New technology can feel scary, but everyone starts in the same place. Go into it knowing that there is going to be a learning curve, and be sure to make use of the abundance of online resources available to support you.
[7:29] It’s easy to get overwhelmed and shut down when trying to tackle bigger projects. But remember that you can complete a marathon by taking baby steps. You just have to keep taking those baby steps.
[9:52] When you break down a big task into absurdly tiny steps, your brain doesn’t get triggered into thinking ‘oh my goodness, I can’t do this!’ It also gives you momentum as you start to progress through the series of tiny steps.
[10:53] Once you have broken the task down into smaller steps, put them into your schedule so that you *have* to do it.
[11:35] If you keep putting a task off, it builds up to the point where you either give up or hire someone to do it. But if you haven’t actually figured out what you need, you’ll end up giving incomplete directions and getting broken results.

Must-Hear Takeaways
As with every episode, we highly encourage you to listen to the entire conversation! But, here are a few of the highlights:
“We know how to drive cars, we know how to pay mortgages, we know how to get mortgages. We know how to do all of this crazy complicated stuff. But there was a period of time when we didn’t know how to do it. And because as adults we’re so used to just pretty much knowing just about everything that we encounter, it can be very scary when we get into something new. So I think one of the first things to think about is just the fact that going into it, know that there is going to be a learning curve for everything.” – Nicki
“You can complete a marathon by taking baby steps but you have to keep taking those baby steps.” – Nicki
“Your brain is not going to be triggered by absurdly simple steps. Your brain is triggered by, ‘okay, set up a new funnel.’ Whoa, how do I even go about doing that?!” – Nicki
“Break it down into absurdly tiny steps and schedule it out. Put it on your schedule so that you have to do it. Even if it’s like ‘okay, I cannot bear to do this for 30 minutes, but I can do 20 minutes. So I’m going to schedule out 20 minutes and I’m going to take 20 minutes of absurdly tiny steps. Because here’s the thing, you could either take absurdly tiny steps and make some progress, or you could not take any steps at all.” – Nicki
